NRA First Steps Pistol Orientation

The NRA FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation — Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training — is the NRA’s response to the American public’s need for a firearm orientation program for new purchasers. NRA FIRST Steps Pistol is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to handguns. Ratios for this class do not exceed four students to one instructor. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot both revolvers and semi-automatic pistol action types. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate, and textbook.

This is an excellent class for the novice or beginning shooter. It is highly recommended for novice shooters that intend to qualify for NC Concealed Carry!

What to bring with you!

….to the classroom……

The single most important thing for you to bring is ……attitude!

Knowledge, skill, and attitude are the keys to safe and responsible firearms handling and ownership.

While we are very proficient in teaching knowledge and skills, attitude, which is the most important element, is something only you can posses or develop. By attending this class you do show an interest in developing or honing this attitude! That is to be commended!

……paper and pencil, highlighters are encouraged as well! Training materials are supplied.

You may bring your firearms into the classroom. Please DO NOT bring live ammunition into the classroom.

 …..to the range……

Eye and Ear Protection!

We provide both .22 caliber revolvers and semi-automatics, and .22 caliber ammunition for this course.

If you own your own firearm(s), and would like specific instruction or assistance with it, bring it to the range with a minimum of 50 rounds of the applicable ammunition.
