NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting
The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is an excellent course for the novice or beginning shooter. It is highly recommended for novice shooters that intend to qualify in the NC Concealed Carry course! Students learn the NRA's rules for safe gun handling, pistol parts and operation, ammunition, range rules, marksmanship fundamentals, field stripping and reassembly, gun cleaning and care, and more opportunties for skill development. Students will receive a Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook and a completion certificate upon successful completion of this course. There are two versions offered for this course: 1. Instructor Led Training (ILT) is an 8 hour course with approximately 5 hours of classroom time and 3 hours on the range. All instruction is in-person with a Certified NRA Instructor. An exam will be administered and a minimum passing score of 90% is required. At the Academy of Personal Defense and Security, we provide the firearms (both revolver and semi-automatic), and the ammunition required for this course. 2. Blended learning course has two segments; NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting, E-Learning and NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting, Instructor Led. The E-learning segment is administered on-line from NRA. This segment covers the classroom subjects of the Basics of Pistol Shooting. An exam is administered, and a minimum score of 90% is required to pass and proceed to the Instructor Led segment. The on-line segment is estimated to last 6-8 hours, however, you do not have to complete the segment in one sitting. The course is divided into approximately 20-30 minute sessions. (You may elect to take 1 hour today, 2 hours tomorrow, 20 minutes the next day, etc.) To register for this course, you will need to contact and schedule your instructor led portion with us. You will be issued a $25.00 Course Control Code (CCC) and a link to register for the e-learning segment.upon receipt of your registration deposit that will allow you access to the online course. The Instructor Led segment is the practical portion of the course conducted at the range. The estimated time for the instructor led segment is 5 hours. The Instructor Led segment includes a review of the e-learning course material and range time where you will receive instruction and practice learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols.
