NRA Pistol Instructor

Prequalification Requirements.

All Pistol Instructor Candidates must complete the entire Basics of Pistol Shooting course, Instructor Led. Training (ILT). See our schedule for availability.

All Pistol Instructor Candidates must complete and return the appendix 1 questionnaire.

All Pistol Instructor Candidates must complete "Appendix 5" prior to or during the Pistol Instructor Course..


Pistol Instructor curriculum:

Day one: NRA Certified Pistol Instructor consists of completing Appendix 5 (unless completed prior), and Basic Instructor Training (BIT). BIT is a 6 hour course that covers the instructional method, rules and regulations concerning NRA courses, and an introduction to the portal account. A passing score of 90% is required. NOTE: If you are already certified in another discipline i.e. Shotgun Instructor, or Rifle Instructor, and received that certification within the last 24 months, you may opt out of this portion of the course. 

Day two: Consists of the pistol instructor discipline.  The course is objective based. All objectives must be met before we conclude the course. This course teaches instructional methods for teaching beginning pistol students and teaches the method to be used when conducting the Basics of Pistol Shooting, Instructor Led Training and the Instructor Led Portion of the Blended version of the Basics of Pistol Shooting Course. Certification for the NRA Marksmanship Simulator Training course and Gun safety seminar are included. Demonstration of Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude to effectively teach and a minimum score of 90% on the written exam is required for certification.
